Bor, South Sudan – Greenbelt Academy High School has claimed victory in the thrilling third edition of the South Sudan Debaters Contest, outshining competitors and capturing the hearts of spectators in a closely contested intellectual showdown.

Organized by the Teachers Without Borders Association, the competition was held under the compelling theme: “Peace, Justice, and Equality.” Greenbelt Academy, debating against the motion, secured a narrow yet decisive win with 249 points, edging out Amazing Grace High School, which followed closely with 246 points.

Chief Judge Manyok Philip Deng lauded the efforts of all participants, particularly noting the competitive spirit and depth of reasoning displayed during the event.

“It was a tight and impressive debate, showcasing the intellectual potential of our young people. The team that won are the opposition,” said Judge Deng as he announced Greenbelt Academy as the official winner.

With this achievement, Greenbelt Academy will go on to represent Jonglei State in the upcoming National Debaters Contest, scheduled for later this year in Juba — a momentous opportunity to further showcase their critical thinking and oratory skills on a larger stage.

One of Greenbelt’s star debaters, Ayuen Abraham Panchol, expressed her delight after the announcement:

“I am grateful for what we have done. I did expect that we would do this much,” said Ayuen, her voice full of pride and optimism. She also offered words of encouragement to her fellow students: “Don’t be discouraged by the outcome — every experience is a chance to grow.”

Though finishing as runners-up, Amazing Grace High School had their moment of pride too, with Widom Majuac being honored as the Best Debater of the Contest, a recognition of his eloquence, clarity, and commanding presence.
